Antique Bausch & Lomb Brass Microscope - This exquisite 19th-century scientific instrument represents a golden era of American optical engineering. Manufactured by the Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. of Rochester, New York, this compound microscope features a heavy Y-shaped base and a polished brass and nickel-plated finish. Notable patent dates of October 3, 1876, and December 25, 1877, are visible on the limb and the mechanical stage, marking it as a significant early model—likely a variation of the ”Physician's” or ”Professional” model from the late 1870s to early 1880s. The set is remarkably complete, housed in its original fitted mahogany carrying case with a functional locking mechanism and key, and includes a small drawer and internal racks for additional eyepieces and objectives. The instrument shows a charming aged patina with some localized pitting and wear to the nickel and brass surfaces consistent with historical use.
