McIntosh Electrotherapeutic Cabinet - Housed in a rich quartersawn oak wall-hanging or tabletop cabinet, this turn-of-the-century electrotherapeutic machine was produced by the McIntosh Battery & Optical Co. of Chicago, Illinois. A premier piece of medical history from the early 1900s, the unit features a slab slate faceplate outfitted with an original McIntosh milliamperemeter, a Mac Lagan Rheostat dial, faradic coil components, knife switches, brass binding posts, and twin overhead light sockets. The solid oak case exhibits elegant carved scroll accents, beveled glass front and side viewing panels, and a lower drawer fitted with dual brass pulls. Physical condition displays light surface wear, scuffing, and minor scratches across the oak finish consistent with age and utility; all beveled glass panels remain clean and intact. No key is present for the front door lock, and operational status remains unconfirmed; the lower drawer is currently stuck closed, and the rear electrical wiring demonstrates expected age-related exposure and oxidation.
