1932 Keuffel & Esser Surveying Sextant - This exceptional pre-war scientific instrument is a 1932 surveying sextant manufactured by the renowned Keuffel & Esser Co. of New York and Hoboken, New Jersey. Expertly constructed from black-finished metal and brass, the precision apparatus features a polished brass six-inch limb read by verniers to 30 seconds, a contoured wooden handle, three distinct field telescopes, mirror filters, and accompanying custom adjustment tools. The lot is entirely housed within its original fitted finger-jointed mahogany storage transit case, complete with its internal paper identification labels and a historic inventory record from the Garver-Nicholson Collections pedigree. Objectively evaluating its physical condition, the instrument exhibits light, age-appropriate surface wear with scattered minor paint losses located primarily on one telescope barrel, while the brass components show a warm, authentic patina. The mahogany case remains structurally sound with superficial scuffs and scratches from handling, is missing its lock key, and features the original front brass data plate detached but safely included loose within the internal compartment.
