Inter-War David White Navy ”NOL” Aero Theodolite - This rare WWII-era ”Theodolite - Shore” (Aero-1928-USN) is a sophisticated piece of naval history manufactured by the David White Company of Milwaukee, WI. A standout feature of this unit is the ”NOL” stamp on the base, identifying it as property of the Naval Ordnance Laboratory—the Navy's premier WWII research hub for secret weapon development and aeroballistics. This specific ”broke telescope” design allowed operators to track weather balloons and experimental projectiles at the zenith (directly overhead) without straining, as the eyepiece remains at a constant horizontal level. Finished in a black crinkle coat over an aluminum body, it remains housed in its original olive-drab plywood case with dual eyepieces and skeleton keys. The instrument is in very good vintage condition with minor surface dust and light wear; the case shows scuffs and paint loss consistent with field use. H 14”, W 10”, D 10”.
