Bidspirit auction | 1929 Meco-Sazh Electric Hair Massager

1929 Meco-Sazh Electric Hair Massager - This fantastic piece of vintage quack medicine history is a ”Meco-Sazh for Hair and Health” electric scalp and hair massager, manufactured by the Foster Mfg. Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. Patented in 1929, this heavy-duty, Art Deco-era apparatus features a robust cast aluminum body, its original stamped brass manufacturer's identification plate detailing U.S., British, and Canadian patents (Serial No. J-2320), distinct dual butterscotch Catlin Bakelite handle knobs, and four motorized, flexible arms fitted with rubber bristled massage cups. Objectively assessing its condition from the visual evidence, the machine is in excellent, highly complete vintage condition. The aluminum frame exhibits minor surface scratches, light oxidation, and typical age-appropriate wear. The brass plate is crisp and fully legible, and the four rubber massage pads remain intact with minor age-related stiffness. A heavy-duty coiled metal suspension spring measuring approximately 8 to 9 inches unextended is attached, alongside an insulated power cord with an inline switch; however, due to age, the internal electrical wiring must be professionally inspected prior to any modern operational use. Works when plugged in and turned on. H 12”, W 13”, D 7”. Please see photos for condition. From the Dale Beeks collection.
