Bidspirit auction | Vintage Rallie & Boston Exercise
Vintage Rallie & Boston Exercise Machine Lot - This captivating pair of historical fitness items bridges late 19th-century American innovation with 1930s British wellness trends, making it an exceptional lot for collectors of early medical technology, quackery, and physical culture memorabilia. The first item is a ”Rallie” massage and exercise belt manufactured by Rallie Health Appliances Ltd. of London, England, featuring a heavy-duty, quilted satin-like fabric abdominal wrap equipped with integrated elasticized tension cords, a thick leather anchoring strap, and turned wooden pull handles. Accompanying the belt is a rare, Victorian-era wall-mounted ”Electric Exercising Machine” produced by the Electric Exercising Machine Co. of Boston, Massachusetts, featuring a handsome, polished wooden housing, its original brass data plate patented January 3, 1888, heavy coiled steel tension springs, original canvas/fabric cords, and beautifully turned wooden grips. Objectively assessing the physical condition from the photos, the entire lot is in very good vintage shape; the wooden Boston machine housing shows only light surface scuffs consistent with age, its brass plate has a rich, authentic patina, and the Rallie fabric belt remains impressively clean with no visible tears or significant staining. The exercise belt measures H 9”, W 38”, D 1” and the wall-mounted exercise device measures H 8”, W 13”, D 6”. Please see photos for condition. From the Dale Beeks collection.
