Pair of Mid-20th C. Prosthetic Leg Cutaways - This exceptional pair of mid-20th-century articulated artificial lower limbs showcases the advanced mechanical engineering of period orthopedics, featuring a hollowed wooden structural core—traditionally seasoned willow or basswood—finished with a smooth, flesh-toned exterior laminate. The below-knee specimen includes its original laced, brown leather thigh cuff secured to dual steel side hinges, while the above-knee limb features an integrated mechanical knee joint equipped with steel tension springs, control cables, and an internal articulated mechanism. A partial green-and-yellow paper manufacturer's label is preserved on the side of the larger limb, reading ”QUALITY V...” over a shield emblem. Both pieces present in structurally stable condition, showing authentic cosmetic wear consistent with actual historical use, including minor scuffs, localized hairline age cracking to the exterior laminate, natural wear to the leather elements, and light surface oxidation on the exposed metal hardware. Smaller leg: H 20”, W 10.75”, D 4”. Larger leg: H 23”, W 10”, D 4.5”. See photos for condition.
