Vintage Orthopedic & Prosthetic Collection - This exceptional, museum-quality assortment of mid-20th-century medical orthopedic equipment offers a profound look into the complex mechanical engineering of polio rehabilitation and wartime recovery during the 1940s–1960s. The collection includes a full double-leg walking brace with an integrated leather pelvic band, a vintage prosthetic lower leg on a display stand, a steel and canvas spinal/torso corrective harness, an adjustable corrective boot attachment with heavy iron framework, and a pair of traditional split-shaft wooden crutches. Constructed from heavy-duty steel, molded resin/fiberglass, thick riveted leather straps, and nickel-plated buckles, these artifacts showcase remarkable historic craftsmanship. The components exhibit heavy cosmetic and structural wear consistent with age and long-term therapeutic use, including significant rusting and oxidation on the iron and steel bars, scuffing on the resin prosthetic leg, and extensive drying, cracking, and fraying on the leather supports, canvas linings, and laces.
