1907 W.F. Stanley Transit Theodolite - This is a remarkably well-preserved October 1907 transit theodolite by the prestigious W. F. Stanley & Co. Ltd. of London. A specialized triangulation instrument (Serial No. 107205), it features a 5” beveled horizontal limb reading to 10” by filar micrometers and a 5” vertical circle reading to 30” with integrated magnifiers. The 9.75” telescope includes its original integral lens cap and sunshade, all finished in a signature dark green patinated brass over a ”Stanley's Patent” leveling base. The instrument is housed in its original mahogany transport case, which features dovetail construction and brass ”H&C” heart-stamped latches. The theodolite is in good overall condition with a consistent aged patina and clear optics; the mahogany case shows expected historical surface wear and minor lid repairs, and it is noted that the original key for the locking mechanism is not present.
