Bidspirit auction | Antique Dennert & Pape Brass
Antique Dennert & Pape Brass Theodolite - An exceptional example of late 19th to early 20th-century scientific engineering, this antique surveying transit/theodolite is beautifully engraved by the prestigious German maker ”Dennert & Pape” of ”Hamburg-Altona” and bears the serial number 1010. Masterfully constructed from brass with a blackened finish, the instrument showcases incredible craftsmanship and is housed in its original wooden carrying case, complete with an internal wooden tool holder containing its original brush and a wooden-handled tool. Physically, the piece appears remarkably complete and robust with no visible cracks to the glass elements or optics, though the optics are currently not clear and would benefit from a professional cleaning. The brass components exhibit an authentic, aged patina with light surface wear, minor scuffs, and localized tarnishing consistent with historical field use, while the wooden case shows typical weathering, surface scratches, and a missing key for its integrated lock mechanism.
