Antique Spears & Co. Surveyor's Compass - This exceptional mid-to-late 19th-century surveyor's dial compass reflects the fine instrument-making traditions of Dublin, Ireland. Explicitly marked ”Spears & Co. 27 College Green Dublin,” this scientific instrument features a beautifully engraved brass dial face accented by an elegant fleur-de-lis north marker and a prominent multi-point compass rose. Constructed primarily from polished brass, the instrument is housed inside its original, custom-fitted wooden storage case complete with its sights and protective brass cover plate. The brass components remain in remarkably clean, bright, and stable condition with a light, age-appropriate patina. The wooden case exhibits generalized exterior surface wear, scratches, and scuffs, and the bottom panel of the case is currently loose and requires care when handling.
