Bidspirit auction | Bausch & Lomb Model 603

Bausch & Lomb Model 603 Theodolite & Case - This is a remarkable professional-grade Model 603 Theodolite from the prestigious Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. of Rochester, NY, dating to approximately 1916. A true ”Triple Alliance” instrument, it features a 12-inch telescope equipped with a Saegmuller variable power eyepiece (17-27x) and an aluminum U-standard. The set includes a wooden tripod with distinctive recessed legs that fits the instrument perfectly, though its original association with this specific unit is unverified. The brass and black-finished components show the honest character of a century of field use; there is significant surface wear and paint loss to the U-standard. The sunshade is present, though other internal accessory slots in the fitted top-loading wooden transit case remain empty. The optics are clear. The wooden case is weathered and exhibits cracking, though the leather strap remains complete and supple. The tripod shows typical scuffs and weathering consistent with age. No key present for case lock. Case: H 16.25”, W 9.75”, D 13.25”. Tripod: H 55.5”, W 7”, D 7”. Overall Assembly: H 70”. Please see photos for condition.
