1920s Soviet Tochnaya Mekhanika Theodolite - This exceptional surveying instrument, manufactured between 1920 and 1925 by the Tochnaya Mekhanika (Precision Mechanics) trust in Moscow, represents a fascinating era of early Soviet industrialization. The compass face bears the markings H.K.Z.C. U.C.R.R., identifying it as property of the People's Commissariat of Agriculture of the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic. Expertly crafted from brass and steel with a blackened industrial finish, the unit features a full vertical circle and a high-contrast yellow sunshade. Instruments from this specific five-year window are quite rare, as they pre-date the massive standardization of the later 1930s. The unit is in excellent vintage condition with clear optics and smooth mechanical movements; the metal shows a handsome age-related patina and minor paint loss on the sunshade consistent with field use.
