Bidspirit auction | Cooke Troughton & Simms Theodolite

Cooke Troughton & Simms Theodolite w/ Case - A remarkable example of British precision engineering, this 1935 Cooke, Troughton & Simms, Ltd. transit theodolite (Serial No. 35079) was manufactured in York, England. Featuring a 5-inch horizontal limb and a 5.25-inch vertical circle, this instrument is finished in a professional black lacquer with brass accents. The set is impressively complete, retaining the original trough compass, various lens filters, a plumb bob, adjusting tools, and a cleaning brush. It is housed in its original fitted mahogany carrying case, which features a rugged leather strap and reflects decades of field use. The instrument itself appears well-maintained with minor surface wear; however, there is a notable break to the glass illumination/reading component on the lower limb as pictured. The mahogany case shows significant wear, including scuffs, scratches, and darkening of the wood consistent with professional age. H 12”, W 7”, D 6.5” (Instrument); H 11”, W 16”, D 8” (Case). From the collection of Dale Beeks. Please see photos for condition.
