Warren-Knight Model 25C Survey Transit Case/Tripod - This ”Sterling” Model 25-C surveying transit was manufactured by the Warren-Knight Co. of Philadelphia on August 8, 1913. The precision instrument features a 6.25” horizontal limb, a 4.5” vertical circle, and an 11” telescope, centered by a deeply dished 3.75” compass with a variation plate. The lot includes the instrument (Serial No. 918), its original finger-jointed mahogany case (stamped No. 919), and a matching heavy-duty wooden tripod. The transit was historically ”lightly refinished” with the telescope repainted and the silver-plated vertical circle exposed. The mahogany case shows significant evidence of field use, including surface abrasions and nicks; the lock mechanism is present but lacks a key, and the leather carrying strap is broken with fragments included. The wooden tripod likewise exhibits clear signs of usage, including typical scuffs and wear to the finish and metal-shod feet. Internal optics show crosshairs that appear thicker than expected, suggesting they may require professional replacement. Case: H 15.25”, W 8.5”, D 12.5”. Tripod/Transit Height: 67”.
