Antique Bausch & Lomb Brass Microscope - Late 19th-century monocular instrument manufactured by Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. of Rochester, New York, featuring a polished brass body tube, adjustment knobs, and stage mounted on a black-lacquered cast iron horseshoe base. The brass spine is stamped with patent dates of October 3, 1876, and October 13, 1885, identifying it as ”The Model” variant produced circa 1887. This complete laboratory set includes its original fitted mahogany carrying case with a brass top handle, four brass lens accessories and eyepieces housed in dedicated interior wooden racks, a biological specimen glass slide labeled ”RAT”, a detached brass lock plate, a matching steel barrel key, and two small wood screws located inside the upper drawer. Objectively, the microscope body shows light surface wear, minor brass tarnish, and a small chip on the edge of the mirror backing plate. The mahogany cabinet displays scattered surface scratches, edge scuffs, and a noticeable area of wood splintering and loss on the front trim where the lock mechanism became detached from the frame.
