Antique Brass Three-Arm Station Pointer - This exquisite maritime navigation instrument is an antique brass three-arm station pointer, also known as a station pointer or protractor, resting securely inside its original fitted wooden velvet-lined case. Popularized in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these precision instruments were essential tools for hydrographic surveyors and navigators to plot a ship's position from three known coastal landmarks. The set features a finely graduated circular brass rim, a central pivot hub, three extending arms (one fixed, two movable) with detailed vernier scales, micro-adjustment thumbscrews, and additional extension bars. Structurally, the brass shows a beautiful aged patina with minimal surface oxidation, and the mechanical components appear intact, while the mahogany presentation box shows light external scuffing and minor veneer wear consistent with age.
