Bidspirit auction | Antique C. Baker London Theodolite

Antique C. Baker London Theodolite & Case - This is a phenomenal late 19th to early 20th-century brass scientific surveying instrument, specifically a transit theodolite, complete with its original fitted mahogany transport case. The instrument features a beautiful blackened and polished brass finish, an integrated compass dial, a leveling base with thumbscrews, and its original detachable telescope with a smaller finder scope, all meticulously crafted by the renowned maker C. Baker, Optician, located at 244 High Holborn, London. Objectively, the brass elements show a handsome, authentic age patina with minor surface scratches, edge wear, and localized oxidation consistent with historical field use. The mahogany case remains structurally sound with its original green felt lining and brass hinges, though it exhibits a visible crack on the back end of the lid, scattered scuffs to the exterior wood, and does not include the original key for the lock. H 6.5”, W 12”, D 9.5”. From the collection of Dale Beeks. Please see photos for condition.
