W.F. Stanley Antique Brass Theodolite - An exceptional turn-of-the-century scientific instrument, this antique brass surveyor's transit theodolite is a testament to British precision engineering. Produced by the renowned W.F. Stanley & Co. of London, the brass instrument features a multi-gear leveling base, a vertical circle wheel, and its main sighting telescope, all nesting beautifully inside its original fitted mahogany transport case. The interior lid retains its original paper label indicating a repair or adjustment date of August 8, 1917, while the case itself features protective green felt padding, secure brass hinges, a central keyhole, and twin exterior iron hooks. The brass displays a rich, authentic aged patina with expected localized oxidation, minor scuffs, and surface wear consistent with field use, while the wooden case shows typical weathering, minor scratches, and abrasions appropriate for its age.
