Antique Max Kohl Optical Apparatus - An exceptional early 20th-century German scientific optical demonstration apparatus manufactured by the renowned Max Kohl A.G. of Chemnitz, Germany, perfect for collectors of historic laboratory instruments and precision engineering. Expertly crafted with a classic enameled cast iron tripod base and a telescoping, adjustable brass and steel central pillar, the unit features a rectangular glass mirror swinging on a pinned pivot mount that redirects light downward through a circular stage aperture. Positioned below the light path is a central triangular wood block designed to hold paper card inserts, including one complete insert featuring two hand-drawn circular compass diagrams used to demonstrate light angles, coordinates, and optical alignment. Physically, the apparatus shows minor age-appropriate paint wear on the base, light surface patina on the brass pillars, and some expected handling wear to the paper card inserts. Crucially, there is a visible break chip on one side of the glass mirror where it is pinned on the pivot, likely sustained from past handling when attempting to move or push the mirror mechanism directly.
