Tamaya & Co. Japanese Transit Level - This is a precision-engineered Japanese surveying transit, manufactured by the renowned Tamaya & Co. of Ginza, Tokyo, dated 1955. A true centerpiece for any collection of scientific instruments, it features a classic black-lacquered finish with polished brass hardware and a high-contrast silvered compass dial. The internal compass is clearly marked with the company's ”Heart and T” trademark. The unit includes a vertical circle for inclination, integrated spirit levels for leveling, and a high-quality telescope with clear optics. Physically, the instrument presents in excellent vintage condition with minor surface wear and small paint chips consistent with field use, but the brass remains bright and the mechanical movements appear fluid.
