Cooke, Troughton & Simms Theodolite W/Case - This historically significant ”Mountain Theodolite,” serial number 30009, was manufactured by the renowned firm of Cooke, Troughton & Simms, Ltd. of London and York. A masterclass in British optical engineering, this 1940-era precision instrument features a black enamel finish on a brass frame, a 6” telescope with a reversion level, and integrated magnifiers for reading the horizontal and vertical limbs to 1 minute of accuracy. This specific model is a specialized surveying instrument designed for portability and high-altitude accuracy. It remains housed in its original mahogany ”lay down” case, which retains its internal ”Rule for Observations with Stadia Lines” label and various lens accessories. The instrument is in very good condition with minor scars to the enamel finish and expected age-related patina on the brass adjustments. The mahogany case shows a heavily weathered exterior finish, no lock key is present, and the leather carrying strap is broken. H 11.5”, W 6.25”, D 6.25”. Please see photos for condition.
