2 Antique Brass Spirit Levels Casartelli - An exceptional pair of 19th-century scientific surveying instruments, featuring precision brass tube spirit levels housing original graduated glass vials and housed in custom velvet-lined and plain mahogany fitted wooden storage cases with brass hook clasps. The larger, fine-quality level is maker-marked ”J. Casartelli, Manchester” on the heavy brass bevel base with fine adjustment hardware, while the smaller accompanying level is unsigned but exhibits complementary Victorian-era brass design. Both instruments display light surface tarnish and minor patina consistent with age and field use; the fitted wooden cases show minor scuffs, finish wear, and light fading to the interior fabric lining, but remain structurally sound and functional overall.
