2 Antique Surveyor Compasses J W Queen - This fine pair of 19th-century scientific surveying instruments highlights exceptional American craft and engineering, featuring a square mahogany-cased surveyor's compass with an integrated tubular spirit level alongside an octagonal cased pocket clinometer compass fitted with a weighted brass pendulum and an original interior paper retailer label from James W. Queen & Co., 924 Chestnut St., Philadelphia. Constructed from solid brass and polished mahogany, both pieces represent classic mid-to-late 19th-century trade tools highly sought after by nautical and scientific collectors. Condition is good overall for their age, exhibiting typical light surface scratches, authentic patina to the brass and wood finishes, minor dust, and a missing glass bezel on the smaller octagonal instrument.
