Keuffel & Esser Co. NY Antique Tripod - This impressive piece of engineering is a vintage professional surveying tripod manufactured by the renowned Keuffel & Esser Co. (K&E), likely dating from the early to mid-20th century. Established in New York, with manufacturing centers in Hoboken, the company was the gold standard for drafting and surveying instruments. This specific model features a heavy-duty oak or mahogany frame with a classic ”split-leg” design, reinforced by cast iron and brass fittings. The head is clearly marked ”K&E CO. N.Y.” and includes a robust center screw mechanism with a heavy tension spring. The wooden legs show a beautiful aged patina with a hand-painted ”71” inventory mark and a clear brass manufacturer's plate bearing the serial number 59318. Its condition is remarkably well-preserved for a field instrument; the wood shows expected minor scuffing and shelf wear, and there is some oxidation and dust on the metal components, but the structure remains solid and the leather securing strap is intact.
