Antique C.L. Berger & Sons Survey Tripod - This is a remarkably well-preserved example of American precision engineering: an antique surveying tripod manufactured by the esteemed C.L. Berger & Sons of Boston, Massachusetts. Featuring the iconic ”CLB” logo on the cast metal head, this piece dates back to the early 20th century. The tripod showcases distinctively carved wooden legs with weight-reducing cutouts, designed for field portability without sacrificing the stability required for transit or level instruments. The brass leveling screws and hardware retain a wonderful aged patina, reflecting the high-grade materials standard for this manufacturer. The item shows honest field wear consistent with its age, including scuffing and paint loss on the metal frame, minor abrasions to the finished wood, and surface oxidation on the brass components; however, the structure remains solid and the mechanical adjustment points appear intact.
