Antique W. & L.E. Gurley Surveying Tripod - This classic piece of engineering history is a split-leg wooden surveying tripod crafted by the renowned W. & L.E. Gurley of Troy, N.Y., a titan in precision instruments since the mid-19th century. Featuring robust hardwood legs with a deep patina, the head is constructed of solid brass with a distinctive threaded mount and a recessed center for instrument attachment. The legs terminate in original pointed steel shoes, essential for field stability. You can still see the stamped inventory numbers ”2855E” and ”21” on the wood, adding a great layer of provenance for a collector. The item shows honest field wear consistent with its age, including scuffs, scratches, and oxidation on the metal components; as noted, the leather foot strap is missing. H 56.5”, W 5.5”, D 5.5” From the collection of Dale Beeks. Please see photos for condition.
