2 Victorian Mech. Lantern Slides-Rats! & Geometric - A pair of Victorian 19th-century mechanical hand-painted glass magic lantern slides housed in mahogany wood frames, featuring a ”Man Eating Rats” slip-gear slide of a sleeping bearded man with a circular rat movement and a mahogany-encased geometric chromatrope slide. Hand-painted on glass with brass gears and wooden frames, these pieces exemplify 19th-century optical projection craftsmanship. Physical condition shows age-appropriate wear including wood frame scuffs, missing pulley cordage on the chromatrope, and a diagonal crack across the outer glass cover plate of the bed slide; painted glass elements and brass gearing remain intact.
