2 Victorian Mech. Lantern Slides-Sphinx, Acrobat - Two Victorian 19th-century mechanical hand-painted glass magic lantern slides set in mahogany frames, showcasing early optical projection technology. The lot includes a long horizontal panoramic slide depicting a camel caravan passing the Great Sphinx of Giza (with nose intact), and a theatrical harbor scene with an acrobat mechanism, and a mahogany-encased geometric chromatrope slide. Hand-painted on glass with brass gears, pulleys, and wooden frames, these pieces reflect classic mid-to-late 19th-century optical entertainment craft. Physical assessment shows visible age-appropriate wear including wood frame scuffs, missing cordage on the pulley mechanisms, and old paper stamp/tape remnants on the acrobat glass border; brass and painted glass elements remain overall well-preserved. H 4.25”, W 14.5”, D 1”. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
