French Odin Merveilleux Magic Lantern Projector - This charming 19th-century French ”Odin Merveilleux” magic lantern projector is a wonderful piece of early optical entertainment. Crafted of metal with a bright nickel finish, this piece features a distinctive side-mounted lion's head ring pull and an oil burner thumbwheel clearly marked ”ODIN MERVEILLEUX” with a decorative sunburst motif. The upper optical chamber is removable from the weighted oil font base and is secured by a functional screw-adjustment latch, and the unit retains its complete internal wick mechanism. The piece exhibits a dull, uniform surface patina with scattered spotting and age-related wear, though the sliding lens tube reveals a brighter original nickel finish underneath that could be polished to restore its former luster.
