Ancient Ground Stone Tool Collection (5) - This refined five-piece collection features a standout 7.5” rectangular stone celt carved from a dense, non-porous siltstone. While it does not ”ring” like high-silica stone, its smooth, polished surface and squared geometry indicate a high-status woodworking tool. The piece is notably inscribed with a mid-century date (likely ”1941” or ”1947”), providing a glimpse into its history within an early private collection. The lot is rounded out by two greenstone celts (4.75” and 4”) with polished bits, a smaller 2.75” black stone celt, and a 2.5” 3/4 grooved hammerstone. The hammerstone shows characteristic percussion pitting, while the celts display authentic bit-edge wear and surface patination.
