WWII Japanese NCOs Sword Type 95 ShinGunto - A Japanese Non-Commissioned Officers, Type 95 Shin Gunto Katana made during World War II. Please see additional information below. *BLADE: World War II, machine made. The blade length is 26.5” and has a straight temper line. No knicks and chips. *BLADE MARKINGS: Serial number 202204 marked on right blade along with a single kanji character. *HABAKI: Brass, no markings. *GUARD (Tsuba): Plain steel with no markings *HANDLE (Tsuka): Made of painted aluminum to resemble the traditional cloth wrapping with ray skin underlay. Has a sarute for a military sword knot and a release catch, common on NCO swords. There are two unidentified markings on the handle collar (fuchi), opposite of the release catch. Areas of the paint show wear from use. *SCABBARD (Saya): Painted metal with a single ashi and obi-tori, very common on a shin-gunto. The saya shows remnants of the factory brownish green paint. There are visible dents and scratches on the saya, common with field use. Light oxidation on the obi-tori. The saya has inscribed serial number “2020204”, matching to the blade.
