Civil War Shell 3.67” Parrott-Dug - Dug 3.67” Army Parrott Gun shell. Current weight 17.9 lbs. Originally shells were 19 lbs. No fuse, or brass rifling bands present. The gun that fired this was invented by Cpt Robert Parker Parrott, graduate of West Point Military Academy, and inventor of military ordnance. As superintendent of the West Point foundry in Cold Spring NY, he created the first Parrott Rifle and associated projectiles. It was patented in 1861 and used by both Union and Confederate forces.
