Guna Mola Panel Turtles - Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1970s 14.5 x 19 inches A single mola panel, worked in 3 layers of hand reverse applique, applique, and hand embroidery. Two large turtles are shown side by side from above, their shells filled with rows of multicolored diamonds bisected by embroidered chain-stitch lines and rickrack applique, with a small turtle set between them at the top. Geometric fret motifs in bright outline colors border the scene on a red ground, giving the design a balanced, densely filled composition.
