Antique c1910 Brickworks Quilt, Carroll Greene Estate - Antique c1910 Brickworks Quilt from the Carroll Greene Estate. Carroll Theodore Greene, Jr. (1931 to 2007) was the art historian and curator who co-curated The Evolution of Afro-American Artists with Romare Bearden in 1967 and founded the Acacia Collection of African Americana. While we cannot authenticate the provenance as being made by an African American Quilter, Carroll Greene was known to collect African American art. 73 by 80 inches. It is comprised of 5.5 by 11 rectangles, in claret and yellow sateen with color placement creating the Brick Works or stair step motif. There is a 7 inch yellow border. It is machine pieced and hand quilted in a Baptist fan motif. Thin cotton batting and a yellow sateen reverse. The edge is finished with the yellow sateen applied binding, by machine.
