Vintage c1940 Red Bells 40th Anniversary Quilt - Vintage c1940 Red Bells 40th Anniversary Quilt measuring 75 by 77 inches. It is comprised of 64 blocks, 8 by 8 inches, set straight, 8 by 8 with 62 red appliquéd bells with red embroidered details and 2 hand embroidered bells in the center also in red thread with one bell embroidered 40th and the other bell embroidered ANNIV. There is a 5 inch red border. It is hand and machine pieced, hand appliquéd, hand embroidered, and hand quilted. Thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with the back brought to the front and applied by hand. This may have been made to celebrate a 40th wedding anniversary. Red or Ruby is a color for celebrating a 40th wedding anniversary and bells are often associated with weddings.
