Bidspirit auction | Vintage c1940 Double Wedding Ring

Vintage c1940 Double Wedding Ring Quilt - Vintage c1940 Double Wedding Ring Quilt made by Mary Cunningham and friends of Douglasville, GA. It measures 78 by 108 inches. It is comprised of 63 interlocking pieced rings on a solid red ground, set straight, 7 across by 9 down, each ring about 11 inches across, with solid red centers and solid red melon shapes at the ring intersections, and no border. The arcs are pieced from small rectangles in a wide scrap range of 1930s and 1940s dress and feedsack prints, including small florals, novelty conversational, plaids, ginghams, checks, dots, and stripes, in turquoise, gold, Kelly green, lavender, pink, blue, and brown. It is hand pieced and hand quilted, with outline quilting around each ring, a large grid worked through the red centers, and arcs through the outer red field, in a red thread with a long visible stitch. There is a low loft batting, and the reverse is not recorded in the photographs provided. The edge follows the scallop of the outer rings and is finished with an applied red bias binding. The quilt was made for the wedding of Florence Korostynski and her new husband of Bellmawr, NJ.
