Guna Mola Matched Pair with Seated Waterskiing Figure - Panama (Guna Yala), circa 1960s 15.25 x 20.5 inches each Matched pair of reverse appliqué mola panels, each depicting a large seated figure with elaborately embroidered facial features including spiral ear, prominent nose, and open mouth. The figure is shown gripping a handle with outstretched arm, positioned atop what appears to be a waterski rendered in red and yellow with embroidered details. A second smaller figure or implement extends from the opposite arm. The surrounding field is densely filled with rows of multicolored vertical slit-cut bars in blue, pink, yellow, purple, light blue, green, orange, and white against a black cotton ground. Worked in three layers of black, red, and pink cotton with additional appliqué and embroidery accents throughout. Dense hand-stitching with extensive embroidered detail on the figures' faces, hands, and footwear. Provenance: From the Parker & Neal Collection.
