Antique 1884 Basket of Roses Quilt
Antique Basket of Roses Quilt signed and dated 1884 in the quilting under one basket. It measures 86 by 86 inches. It is comprised of 9 blocks, 21.5 by 21.5 inches, set straight, 3 by 3, with an 11.5 inch swag border on all 4 sides. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand quilted. It has thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with and applied Turkey red fabric binding, applied by machine. It is in good condition with overall fading, a few small spots, and minor edge wear. Beneath one basket is hand quilted Dora Schindle 1884. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt, and signed by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter's Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
