Antique c1830 Preprinted Patchwork Chintz Quilt from New England, measures 73x89". Unwashed and with original glazed finish. This is a unique preprinted patchwork fabric, I am not familiar with. These fabrics can also be called Cheater Prints or Simulated Patchwork. There is a stripe cotton print border on 3 sides. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. There is a thin cotton batting and off brown print strip reverse. The edge is finished with the front brought to the back, and applied by hand. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt. It is in good condition with the chintz starting to spilt is some fold areas. This quilt can be seen on page 135 of "Vintage Quilts" co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge.
