Antique c1870 Mennonite Schrenschnitte or Paper Cut Quilt, from Lancaster PA, measuring 88x88". it is comprised of 9 blocks, 22.5 by 22.5 inches, set straight 3 by 3 with a green and red triple border, each 2.5 inches wide. It is machine pieced, hand appliquéd, hand reverse appliquéd, and hand quilted. There is thin cotton batting and a black mourning print reverse. The edge is finished with an applied red solid binding. The quilt is very graphic with the red appliqué against the green ground. The workmanship is excellent. It is in good condition with minor fade spots and dark spots. There is a sleeve for hanging attached to the back along the top of the quilt, and signed by Bobby Aug. This quilt can be seen on page 23 of "Vintage Quilts" co-authored by Bobby Aug. From the Estate of Bobbie Aug. Bobbie Aug was a well known and regarded quilt historian, author, appraiser, and quilter for over a half a century. She was also an antique quilt dealer and quilt store co- owner and judge. Most notable is her work on the American Quilter's Society Quilt Appraiser Certification Committee and her early involvement in the Professional Association of Appraisers-Quilted Textiles.
