Vintage c1930s Embroidered Signature Quilt
Vintage c1937-1938 hand embroidered signature quilt measuring about 73 x 88". The block is called Missouri Daisy. There are 30 blocks measuring about 10 x 11", they are set straight, five 5 x 6. There is 3.25 inch wide pink sashing and outer border on all four sides. It is hand and machine pieced and hand quilted. In the center of several blocks are hand embroidered names and two with dates 1937 and 1938. A brief search shows that many of these names are included in the 1940 Nebraska census. Some of the names on the quilt include Ellen Russell, Jessie Rose, Julia Hill, Ethel Grannis, Ruby Grannis, Ethel McKnight. There is a thin cotton batting and pale pink reverse. The edge is finished in a white cotton bias binding applied by machine. It is in good condition with several spots and a few areas where the binding is coming undone.
