Marjorie Reed (1915-1996) ”George Crook Apache Scout” - Marjorie Reed (1915-1996) Rare vintage 1970s original watercolor painting depicting Civil War Leader General George Crook’s Apache Scout. Base reads “Gen. George Crook’s Apache Scout”. Signed and dated “Reed 9/78”. Provenance comes from a Massachusetts estate. In Excellent overall condition. Clean and crisp with only gentle toning. No holes, rips or tears. Well preserved. Framed in an antique 29th century full plate size gold paper mat and protected behind glass in an antique wood frame. Backed with cardboard and ready to hang. Measures 7” x 5” and 9 1/4” x 7 1/4” with the frame.George R. Crook (September 8, 1828 – March 21, 1890) was a career United States Army officer who served in the American Civil War and the Indian Wars. He is best known for commanding U.S. forces in the 1886 campaign that led to the defeat of the Apache leader Geronimo. As a result, the Apache nicknamed Crook Nantan Lupan, which means ”Grey Wolf.” Condition: The absence of a condition report does not imply an object is free of defects.
