John Terry (1880-1934) American - John Coleman Terry (1880-1934) Oil on canvas, signed lower left ”John Terry”, piece measures 16 x 20 and 20 x 24 inches with faux rope inlay and gilt wood frame. From a local Coral Gables collection. Born in San Francisco, CA in 1880. After studying at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute, Terry maintained a studio in his native city. He was a partner of artists Henry Hawxhurst and George Parmenter in 1902. Shortly thereafter, he joined the art department of the San Francisco Call where he remained for several years. He died in Coral Gables, FL on Feb. 27, 1934. Exh: Calif. State Fair, 1893. Condition: The absence of a condition report does not imply an object is free of defects.
