Raphael Ellender (1906 - 1972) American - Raphael Ellender (1906 - 1972) Watercolor on Paper, signed lower right ”Ellender”, piece measures 19 x 13 and 29 x 23 inches w/ frame. Mr. Ellender, who was born in this city on Feb. 22, 1906, studied at Columbia College School of Architecture and Teachers College and was graduated in 1926. He did graduate work at Hunter. College, the Academie Colerossie in Paris, the National Academy of De sign and the Art Students League.Mr. Ellender's book, “Basic Drawing, ” published by Doubleday in 1964, is a text on still life, landscape, the figure and perspective. A paperback edition of the book is to be Issued in October.His paintings, drawings and portraits are on view at the Wiener Galleries, the H. E. Feist Galleries, the C. C. Price Galleries, the Weintraub Galleries, the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts and the Brooklyn Museum and in private collections.He exhibited in one??man and gallery group shows in, this city, White Plains and Philadelphia and took part in exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy, the American Water Color Society, the Chicago Art Institute, the Connecticut Gallery of Fine Arts and the Brooklyn Museum.He was a member of the Allied Artists of America and a life member of the Art Students League.
