Robert Smith, rector of Saint John's Episcopal Church, Middle Street, Gloucester, Massachusetts, was a self-taught artist. He was a member of the Rockport Art Association & Museum, Rockport, MA as well as the North Shore Arts Association, Gloucester, MA . He won the L. Edmund Klotz Memorial Prize at North Shore Art Association in 1950, and the John Hilliard Memorial Prize at the Rockport Art Association & Museum in 1954.
