John Clinton Ogilvie (1838-1900) American - John Clinton Ogilvie (1838-1900) Oil on panel, signed lower right ”Clinton Ogilvie” and dated 1877, piece measures 5.5 x 9 and 9 x 12.5 inches w/ frame. Clinton Ogilvie was a landscape painter who was born into a wealthy New York family. He studied with James M. Hart , a painter in the Düsseldorf tradition. The careful observation and minute detail of Ogilvie's early paintings undoubtedly derived from Hart and John F.
