Graham Noble Norwell (1901 - 1967) Canada - Graham Noble Norwell (1901 - 1967) Watercolor & Gouache, signed lower right, measures 6.5 x 8.5 inches w/frame. Graham Noble Norwell was a painter born in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1914 he moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada with his parents and then shortly afterwards to Kingston, Ontario. He subsequently lived in Ottawa, Ontario; Montreal; and Val-David, Quebec ( in the Laurentians about 50 miles north of Montreal) where he died. His primary mediums were oil and watercolour. His subjects were landscapes, particularly rural Quebec winter scenes. His style is representational, easily identified by its stylized simple shapes and crisp vivid colours. He studied at the Ontario College of Art (1920) under Arthur Lismer (see AskART), George A. Reid (see AskART), John W.Beatty (see AskART) and Robert Holmes (see AskART). In addition he studied in Paris and in London under Augustus John (see AskART). In the same time period, of the early 1920's, he also travelled to South America and the United States.
