Edith Wyckoff Kuchler (1887 - 1966) American - Edith Wyckoff Kuchler (1887 - 1966) Watercolor on Paper , Signed , measures 14.5” x 20.5” , w/frame 25” x 31” Edith Wyckoff Kuchler was born in Ossining, New York in 1887. After her early schooling and basic art training there, she became a leading member of the Rockport Art Association, Massachusetts, in her early professional career. Records at the Association record her studies as a student of Kimon Nicolaides, a former student of John Sloan and Kenneth Hayes Miller and a teacher at the Art Students League. Nicolaides became a modernist painter with exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. He also authored an influential text, The Natural Way to Draw, published in 1941. Kuchler was a leading member of the Clearwater Artists Group and the St. Augustine Art Association. While Kuchler was a colleague of urban realists Reginald Marsh, George Bellows and Edward Hopper, she however became a watercolor painter of regional American life in richly colored and painterly watercolors with recorded exhibitions in New York, New Hampshire and Florida, where she was featured in a posthumous exhibition and retrospective at the Florida Artists and Craftsman Gallery, Clearwater, Florida in 1983.
