Arthur Norman (A.N./Norm) Davis (1904 - 1999) American - Arthur Norman (A.N./Norm) Davis (1904 - 1999) Oil on Board, Signed, Measures ( 16 x 20 inches ) w/frame ( 20 x 24.5 inches ) Raised in Gloucester, MA, Arthur Davis grew up in the age of sailing when fishing and cargo vessels were still sailing in and out of Gloucester's busy harbor. At an early age, he spent time down on the docks where he built model sail boats and completed his first paintings before having any formal training. After graduating from Gloucester High School in 1922, he continued his education with graphic art classes in Boston. Later, he studied painting privately under Emile Gruppe and Gordon Grant where he was one of his prize pupils. [The estate of Mr. Davis currently cherishes a letter and two personally signed works that were gifts from Mr. Grant ]. Condition: Good Condition
